Texas Fire Extinguisher Inspection Requirements
A practical overview of workplace inspection and maintenance concepts, with a distinction between OSHA requirements and other standards.
What OSHA says
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.157 covers portable fire extinguishers in workplaces. It requires employers to inspect, maintain and test workplace extinguishers; monthly visual inspections and an annual maintenance check are among the requirements.
Why the distinction matters
OSHA rules are federal workplace requirements. NFPA 10 is a separate standard. A supplier or article should not describe an NFPA recommendation as Texas law unless a Texas authority makes that connection.
Questions for a supplier
Ask what inspection scope is included, how maintenance is documented, whether recharge or hydrostatic testing is needed, and what alternate protection is used when equipment is removed from service.
